Owerri drowns in FILTH as Contractor dupes Imo State Govt

The pictures below were taken on Friday July 1st 2011 right in the State Capital, Owerri. It appears we are back to square one. It is in my understanding that the Contractor who was awarded the Refuse Disposal contract duped the State Government.

Prohibition of Facilities Relocation Act by Mazi Henry Otulle Eke, Sr.

It is understandable that non members of the Imo State House of Assembly, with the exception of the State Governor, are not permissible under House Rule to sponsor a bill for debate in House of Assembly. Interest groups or individuals could sponsor a bill or bills through the honorable members or the governor.

Consequently, I am requesting that any member of the House, or even the governor to sponsor a Prohibition of Facility Relocation Bill to prevent current and future governors of Imo State from relocating any existing infrastructure already situated in one particular area to another.

Many progress-minded Imolites were dismayed as many previous Imo governors toyed with Imo State University by tossing it from one locality to another. When Imo State University was uprooted (under military government) from Madonna High School, at Ihitte Uboma, (writer is not from Okigwe zone) to another location, it caused lots of agony and economic embarrassment to many vendors and contractors that rushed to the area to build rented facilities for students, professors/Lecturers, and non academic personnel, only to have the university yanked away before their eyes, whereas their investments were left to suffer and to rot away to oblivion.

The bill will enable the governor to build his/her own facility and to leave the existing infrastructures alone, thereby distributing and creating employment
opportunities for so many Imolites.

Instead of relocation of university campuses from its original location to the home of the governor or his in-laws for cheap political scoreboard, Imo State should emulate the University of Texas System by citing Imo State University campuses to such areas as Egbema and Oguta campuses specifically for petroleum engineering/natural gas and marine engineering departments, Orlu, Okigwe, Owerri, Mbaise, Ngor Okpala, and Okolochi Campuses.

This is how to develop many areas of the Sate and imprint the legacy of the sitting governor. This is how it is done in the United States, and in some university cities, the university itself becomes the largest employer. It can be done at home too.

In Imo State, we cannot have enough universities in the State. The citing of university campuses allover the state is the quickest way to actualize development of Imo State.

This is just a very simple proposal that could provide employment opportunities, thereby reducing criminal activities in the State. Leaders, by virtue of their positions, should strive to introduce new opportunities for the people.

The Prohibition and Facility Relocation Bill, if passed into law, would encourage development in many areas of the State.

What is wrong to leave Imo State University Teaching Hospital, at Owerri, and build another one at Orlu? Does it mean that Imolites are not worthy to enjoy two teaching hospitals at the same time?

As a matter of facts, and considering the academic super state of Imo, are we not suitable to have well furnished teaching hospitals in each of the geopolitical zone in the State? This simple, but powerful bill will stop governors from toying with the people. Why can’t we try new ideas?

no this not good rediance to bad rubbish.it is a clear case of lack of vision from roachas .how can one come into office and the first thing you do is it to throw away the baby with the bath water.why did roachas scrap entraco and irroma?these agencies where responsible for opening up rural areas and ensuring the laws govering cleaniness in the state are maintained.why not continue with those good ideas.using contractors for such a job is creating room for curroption .who is roachas trying to compensate with these cleaning contract.ohakim is not laughing at owelle but feels pity.for he owelle is going about his administration with alot of sentiment.if an idea is good use it even if it is from the devil.as long as it will benefit the state.crossriver state is the best in tourism in nigeria becos there is a continuation of idea from one predecessor to another.that is how people grow.but never men like roachas and his fellow sentimental electorate.also if it was business as usual imo would not have won the UN HABITAT AWARD FOR ENVIRONMENT.stop been sentimental.

Wow i cant believe these pictures … What can be done , Owerri used to be one of the cleanest and comfortable cities to live in Nigeria………… I hope the government of Imo state plans to re-develop the state infrastructures to serve all imolites and Nigerians. Make we clean up our city abeg , I take GOD name beg our government Clean Owerri up….
