IMO LG SAGA: Gov. Okorocha invites PDP Council Chairmen …Insists on Rule of Law.
Gov.Rochas Okorocha has invited the PDP Council Chairmen to a meeting on Friday 27, 2012.
Speaking to Newsmen in Government House, Owerri, Gov. Okorocha reiterated that as the father of the state, he would always uphold the Rule of Law as well as protect the interest of everyone in the state.
“I am concerned about the unnecessary controversy surrounding the Judgment of the Court of Appeal. As you are aware, the decision of the Court of Appeal has been appealed against to the Supreme Court. A motion for stay of execution has also been filed. When I took office, I swore to uphold the rule of law and I am aware that once an application for stay is pending in a court, the status quo remains.”
The governor who expressed surprise at the statement credited to the Attorney-General of the federation, Mohammed Adoke, posited that such comment which generated the controversy may have emanated from sheer misinformation about the true situation on ground.
“I am therefore surprised at the press statement credited to the Attorney-General of federation who I believe may not have been well informed about the true situation on grounds. I am dismayed at the resort to self by the Council Chairmen with the active connivance of the Police acting as Sherriff without proper court order. This is clearly against the principle of respect to the Rule of Law and due process” Gov. Okorocha said.
He appealed to Imolites to remain calm and urged all parties to be law-abiding to avoid breach of law, order and peace that have continued to reign in the state. Gov. Okorocha further recalled how he came to power by the massive support of Imo people and warned those instigating confusion to desist henceforth as his administration is committed to the protection of lives and properties in the state.
“Let me reiterate that I came into government by the special Grace of God and the overwhelming support of the masses and that underscores why their interest is uppermost in my mind and whatever will create any kind of controversy and shading of blood in the state would not be tolerated.
Therefore, I appeal to those who are instigating confusion to desist because my concern is about my people. Let me also say that the statement of the Attorney-General would have been more inciting to create this unnecessary confusion where as both the Transition Committee Chairmen and the Council Chairmen are all Imolites and that’s why we should not create any chaotic situation.
This nation is faced with many challenges and problems and Imo state has remained peaceful over the years” Gov. Okorocha concluded.
