Imo Town Union Executives dissolved. 4th tier government elections hold April 19th.
Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has dissolved the Executives of the 357 town unions across the twenty seven (27) local government areas of the state ahead of the 4th Tier Government election billed for April, 2012 in the state.
Governor Okorocha stated this during a breakfast meeting with the traditional rulers in Imo State at Ahiajoku Centre, new Owerri.
The governor dissolved the Town Union EXCOS to pave way for a level playing ground for all the intending aspirants for the 4th tier government election in the state come April, 9, 2012.
Governor Okorocha urged Imolites who are interested in contesting for the post of President-General of Communities, Community Speaker,
Women and Youth leaders to kick start their campaign for the forth coming election; noting that Option A4 system of voting will be adopted for the polls.
The governor also ordered that all the communities that failed to produce their traditional ruler against the government advise to do so, to avoid being merged with their mother community.
While stressing that all traditional rulers in the state are
expected to reside in their communities, Governor Okorocha pointed out that all Imolites in the state government – owned primary, secondary and tertiary institutions to submit their names through a form to their traditional ruler who according to him will forward same to the government through the Ministry of Local Government.
The governor added that when put in place, the 4th tier government will attract unprecedented development to the communities of the state, thereby projecting Imo State as the most developed state across the country.
Meanwhile, the traditional ruler of Osuama community in Isiala Mbano LGA, HRH, Eze Charles Obinna Onuoha applauded the governor for his transformation plan for the state through the 4th tier government,assuring that the idea will bring more development to the grassroots.
Eze Onuoha pointed out that such level of government is equally practiced in the US and UK which according to him is called City Council, mainly in charge of the grassroots, since they are expected to know more of their areas.
HRH, Eze George Nwosu of Umuekwune community in Ngor Okpala LGA also stated that governor Okorocha’s plan of 4th tier government is a wonderful thing to happen in the state and urged Imolites to support the development plan.
