Mayweather vs Pacquiao: Did the fight live up to the hype? – Joi John
The “fight of the century” has come and gone. Like I predicted some days back, it was fight to finish for Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquaio.
Each boxer earned about $1m from the fight splitting $138,000 per second.
At the end of the entire 12 rounds, the fight was awarded to Mayweather on a unanimous points decision from three judges. The judges ruled 118-110, 116-112, 116-112 for Mayweather who retains his unbeaten professional record.
STATISTICS FROM THE FIGHT
- Pacquiao threw 429 punches; 81 landed. Mayweather threw 453 punches; 148 landed.
- There were 193 jabs from Pacquiao , 18 landed. Out of the 267 jabs from Mayweather, 67 landed.
- 263 power punches came out of Pacquiao but only 63 landed. Mayweather threw 168 power punches; 81 landed.
A lot of people expected Pacquiao to be more aggressive but I think he did alright considering all the things he has going on for him. He is an incumbent national congressman, Singer, Basketball coach and Actor to list a few. I’ll give him a pat on the back for being able to juggle all of these at the same time AND, earning recognition as one of the best boxers in the world.
Private Jet parking for VIP’s who flew in to watch the fight. Mc Carran airport in Las Vegas was said to be crammed wing to wing. The airport had to close due to the high volume of planes.
Overall, the match was overhyped in my opinion. When little David took on Goliath the 9ft 6″ giant in the bible, it was a free show so why some people coughed out as much as $250,000 for ring side seats still beats me. That’s a size-able house paid-in-full right there! A re-match would be interesting to watch. What do you think?
