Muhammad Ali, the silver-tongued boxer and civil rights champion who famously proclaimed himself “The Greatest” and then spent a lifetime living up to the billing, is dead.
According to family sources, Ali died on Friday at a Phoenix-area hospital, where he had spent the past few days being treated for respiratory complications a condition that was complicated by Parkinson’s disease.
The funeral will take place in Ali’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, his family said in a statement.
The “greatest of all time” ends his journey on earth at the age of 74.
