Over the weekend, the good people of our neighbouring state , Bayelsa went to the polls to vote their choice at the Gubernatorial elections. The results of the election saw the emergence of Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson as their Governor-Elect.
On Tuesday, February 14th, Hon. Dickson was sworn in as the 4th Governor of Bayelsa State.

In his inaugural address , Governor Dickson declared free and compulsory education to all the primary and secondary school students in Bayelsa immediate effect.
He assured Bayelsans that the days of greed at the expense of the people were over as he was determined to work hard to ensure that all leakages and sources of corruption were blocked.
Governor Henry Seriake Dickson was born on the 28th day of January, 1966 in Toru- Orua Town of Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Nigeria to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Nanaye Dickson of Orua and a descendant of the famous King Kpadia Royal House of Tarakiri Kingdom. He is also a descendant of the renowned Obu warrior family of Orua whose trademark is valour, bravery and honour.
Gov. Dickson attended Kolobiriowei Primary School, Toru-Orua from 1972 to 1978 where he got his First School Leaving Certificate and proceeded to Government Secondary School, Toru-Ebeni in 1978 to 1983 and obtained his West African School Certification (WASC/GCE).
He joined The Nigeria Police Force in 1986 in service to his father land and in 1988 gained admission into Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt to read Law from where he graduated with LL.B (HONS.) in 1992. He then proceeded to in 1993, to earn his Bachelors in Law (B.L.HONS) from the Nigeria Law School, Lagos whereupon he was called to the Nigeria Bar the same year.
Upon his graduation in 1993 was appointed a Cadet Assistant Superintended of Police in 1994 whereupon he proceeded to Nigeria Police Academy Kano for Officer Training. During the course of his training, he voluntarily withdrew his service after close to a decade to as a police officer to practice the profession of law. As a lawyer, he worked with SERENA DAVID DOKUBO & CO holding the position of Associate from 1994 to 1995 and moved to ALUKO & OYEBODE, a prominent Law firm in Lagos also as an Associate Solicitor in 1995 to 1996 after which he founded the Law firm of SERIAKE DICKSON & CO in Port Harcourt and later Yenagoa and became its Managing Solicitor from 1996 to 2006.
Gov. Dickson was elected Pioneer Publicity Secretary, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Yenagoa from 1996 to 1998. He was elected the State Chairman, Alliance for Democracy (AD) 1990 to 2000 and elected National Legal Adviser of the Alliance for Democracy 2000 to 2002. He was equally elected National Legal Adviser of the foremost Pan-Ijaw Socio-Cultural and Political group,the Ijaw National Congress (INC) 2001 to 2003. He became a Member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) Nigeria Bar Association in 2004 to 2006. He was also the founding Secretary of the Great Committee of Friends (The Green Movement) in 2006.
Gov. Dickson was appointed the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Bayelsa State from 2006 to 2007 by His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who at the time was the Governor of Bayelsa State.
As a result of the positive impact he made on the people and based on his long years of committed and dedicated service to the state and the Ijaw nation at large, he was elected in 2007, as Honourable Member representing Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constitution of Bayelsa State in the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Abuja.
In the House of Representatives where he represented Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal constituency of Bayelsa State, Hon. Dickson served as the Chairman, House Committee on Justice and also a Member of several committees. Owing to his outstanding record of achievements, he was consequently re-elected into the House of Representatives in April 2011.
