Two persons were feared killed, while several others sustained serious injuries during the Community Government Council (CGC) election held in the 637 communities across the 27 local government areas of Imo State.
The Imo state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, who confirmed the incident to newsmen in Owerri recently disclosed that an aged man died in Ikeduru Local Government Area, during a stampede while another was killed at Elelem in Ngor Opkola Local Government Area of the state.
The police boss said five suspects were arrested in Ikeduru Local Government Area, while another four were as well nabbed up at Ngor Opkala, in connection with the incident.
He said the election turned into violence because “some people saw it as an avenue to get something from the government”.
He assured that efforts would be intensified to ensure that the state is rid of all criminals. – Source
