The level of insecurity in Imo State now is very disturbing. Recently, the Anglican Bishop of Okigwe South, Rt. Rev. David Onuoha, cheated death by whiskers when armed hoodlums shot severally at his vehicle at Eziachi, Orlu, on his way back from Nnewi.
Just last Thursday, April 12, 2012, armed robbers stormed the Mbari Street branch of United Bank for Africa Plc at about 7pm. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sam Oodee, not only confirmed this ugly incident but also disclosed that five people were injured in the dastardly operation and were immediately moved to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where they are receiving treatment.
Stories abound of a number of other serious crimes. While this is going on, club carrying touts, aided by armed policemen, harass vehicle owners and drivers for all manner of emblems and car stickers. Honestly, we are in serious trouble here in Imo. Is anybody listening?
