November 13,2012 will be remembered in history as the date Governor Okorocha officially flagged off the “Free tertiary education” programme introduced by his administration. Today, Imo State became the first state ever to actualize free tertiary education to its citizens.
Students enrolled at Imo State University will receive N100,000 (One hundred thousand naira) while students at the Imo State Polytechnic will receive N60,000 (Sixty thousand naira) towards their tuition.
Speaking at the occassion, His Excellency disclosed that the State has adopted all students and will continue to ensure their fees are taken care of by the government. He urged students to shun cultism, prostitution, armed robbery and kidnapping among other crimes they engaged in to offset their school fees.
Also at the event, the Executive Governor personally handed out checks to pay gratuities for dozens of retired Imolites who had been owed by previous administration for over 10 years.
Governor Rochas Okorocha has yet again silenced the loud voices of his critics and all who assumed that the FREE EDUCATION pledge he made to the state would never come to fruition. He said it! He did it !
Way to go, Gov!
