Gov.Okorocha launches joint security outfit, Operation Rescue Imo

Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha has declared a total war on kidnappers under his several commitments to make Imo a crime-free state.

This is even as the governor officially launched the state government Joint Security outfit otherwise known as “Operation Rescue Imo” with 100 Ford Model Security vans with modern security gadgets.

Speaking at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, the venue of the event, governor Okorocha said though kidnapping has reduced drastically since he assumed office, his administration will stop at nothing to ensure that the state rid-off of kidnapping and armed robbery.

He disclosed that appropriate steps have been taken to ensure effective crime prevention to make the state safe for investment as well as create a conducive atmosphere for total economic transformation being championed by his administration under Imo Rescue Mission.

He urged criminals and kidnappers to have a rethink as lies administration is presently embarking on policies and programmes that will create job opportunities to absorb employed Imo youths.

In  his speech, the Inspector-general of Police, Haliz Ringim applauded the initiative of Gov Okorocha to assist the police and other security agencies in the task of fighting crime in the state.

The IG Police who describes security as everybody’s business urged the officers and men of Imo stae command to make good use of the operational vehicles by showing more dedications and commitments in the fight against crime.

About 50 suspected kidnappers were paraded as part of the highlights of the event by the police.

Meanwhile, Gov Okorocha has disclosed that as part of measures to ensure effective community policing at the grassroots, a local government Security Council has been constituted in each of the 27 local government areas which comprises the police, SSS and other security agencies.

The governor who made this disclosure when the IGP Ringim earlier paid a courtesy visit in his office at Government House, Owerri stated that traditional rulers in the state had been empowered with security vote to manage the affairs of the vigilante team in their various communities.

He pledge the support of his administration towards addressing the decay in the police formation and barracks as well as urge the federal government to pay more attention to the welfare of the overall working condition of the Nigerian Police.
