Gov. Okorocha signs 4th Tier Government bill into Law.
Governor Rochas Okorocha has signed the fourth-tier government bill, otherwise known as “Community Government Council” into law in the state.
His Excellency made this known while addressing Imo Council of Traditional Rulers at their Secretariat hall new Owerri, expressed confidence that the 4th-tier government have been accorded full legal backing to function, adding that the state would swing into action on agricultural ventures in various communities in the state.
While speaking, Governor Okorocha noted culture and agriculture as two cardinal points on which community government council anchors on and further stated the readiness of the state government to grow agricultural produce in order to stabilize grass root development. He expressed apprehension on the risk of deepening on other states for provision of food stuffs and other agricultural consumable and called on every Imo citizen to partner with state on solving the agricultural problem.
Also, he stressed on the need to preserve Igbo cultural heritage and enjoined the traditional rulers to ensure the use of Igbo language especially its proverbs in their parliamentary activities. He further charged them with the responsibility of forming committees, on culture, language, finance, education and Diaspora which he said would go a long way to stabilize the new government and promote Igbo culture.
Governor Okorocha urged the traditional rulers to make constant use of their staff of office (Offor) which he noted as their symbol of authority and power vested on them by the state. He noted that the state has six hundred and thirty seven communities already and as such not ready to create new ones, and called on those clamouring for new autonomous communities to hold on till when the need arises.
Responding, the Chairman, Imo Council of traditional rulers, Eze Samuel Ohiri thanked Gov. Okorocha for building a befitting secretariat for Ndi Eze.
He noted that Ezeship has regained its dignity in Igboland and pledged their unalloyed support to the Rescue Mission.
