The leader of the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim in Nigeria, His Most Eminence, the Baba Aladura Dr Lazarus Onyeleonu has described Governor Rochas Okorocha as a blessing to the people of Eastern Nigeria and Nigerians at large, stating that His emergence in the East as governor and exit of Ikemba Odimegwu Ojukwu almost at the same time was in the plan of God.
Governor Okorocha, the wife, Her Excellency, Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha and some members of the state executive Council had attended a special church service of the Order in Owerri on Sunday [today] in honour of Baba Aladura who was on ecclesiastical tour of Imo State.
In an address, His Eminence recalled that his first visit as Baba Aladura elect was in the first quarter of 2011, and that at the second coming, he was overwhelmed by the massive infrastructural development and transformation of the state which could be an eloquent testimony that the governor is really on rescue mission. He prayed that God Almighty would grant the governor and his administration, the strength, the divine health and the wherewithal to sustain these giant strides.
He commended the governor for all the recongnition his government has accorded to Owerri Ecclesiastical province and extension of other gestures to the province, adding that, as the first Baba Aladura of Igbo extraction since 1925, the regard the governor had continued to give to the Owerri province has remained encouraging.
His Eminence continued, “I also want an opportunity to contribute my quota towards the development of the Eastern State as we have been doing in other states in the western Nigeria . I wish to use this medium to earnestly request Your Excellency, whose Rescue Mission agenda has education of Imolites as a priority, to kindly avail the holy order with a sizeable parcel of land to build befitting educational institutions from Nursery to tertiary as well as a hospital as part of corporate social responsibilities”.
Addressing the congregation, governor Okorocha said His Eminence Baba Aladura Dr Lazurus Anuba Onyeleonu was a product of steadfastness, loyalty, honesty, hard work, decency and patience, stressing that without these factors it would have perhaps, been difficult for an Igbo man to attain the leadership pinnacle of the eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim .
Governor Okorocha appealed to Baba Aladura and other church leaders in the country to pray that Nigerians irrespective of their status would appreciate the need to remain united and to shun evils.
He said no nation attains the height destined for it by God without the unity of purpose or hunger for the right course, and that the church should pray the country through in her trials and challenges adding that he would continue to work in harmony with church leaders in the state because of what they represent both physically and spiritually.
The governor who danced excitedly with the wife in the church also approved land which the Baba Aladura had earlier asked for the building of schools and hospital. The sermon at the service was preached by His Eminence Isaac Bello, who took his text from Exodus 13:3 and 1Samuel 17 with the topic “Remember what the Lord can do.”
