Governor Okorocha tasks Federal Government on bad roads in the South East.

Gov. Rochas Okorocha has called on the federal government to come to the rescue of the people of the South-East by fixing the roads that are presently in a state of disrepair. Governor Okorocha made this call while receiving the Enugu zonal Commander of the Road Safety Corps, Commander Chike Nwaka at the Government House, Owerri.

The governor informed the zonal commander that the situation of the federal roads in the south east has become a source of worry to every well meaning citizen of the zone, adding that the very heavy down pour and flooding has cut off most of the roads in the south east, citing instances of Onitsha-Enugu expressway, Enugu – Port Harcourt and the Ideato-Orlu road.

The Governor used the opportunity to reiterate his earlier call to the federal government to create additional one more state in the south east to redress the marginalization and imbalance the south east is suffering in the political arrangement of things in the country. He called on President Jonathan to submit as a matter of urgent importance an executive bill to create additional state in the south east, such a bill should be singled out and treated separately as matter that requires urgent national attention.”

Earlier in his address, the zonal commander, Mr. Chike Nwaka said that he was in the state to have on the spot assessment of road situation in the state. He informed the governor that the entire south east has the worst roads in the country and appealed to him to collaborate with other governors of the south east to see what they could do to remedy the situation. The commander pledged  that more unit commands would be created in the state to take care of the traffic situation in the Owerri metropolis.
