Governor Rochas Okorocha has approved the mouth watering amount of N60 million naira for the 593 athletes and Sports officials representing the State at the 17th National Sports Festival in Rivers State. The 3-day competition will feature 24 different sporting events: Kickboxing, Cycling, Wrestling, Kung-fu, weightlifting, football, judo to name a few.
Governor Okorocha who spoke to the State contigents at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri stated that his administration would encourage sports activities to improve the performance of the sportsmen and women in the state. He encouraged the team to strive for excellence to reciprocate the government’s gesture by winning medals at the competition.
Our darling Governor also added that na the state would also appreciate their good conduct during the games. In other words, no indian hemp smoking or mbomchi since IMO STATE BLOG learnt that na there were accomodation problems in Porra-court earlier on today. Hopefully our female athletes will adhere to our Governors wise words all through their stay.
Most importantly, we hope to receive them with Medals at the end of the Competition. For the RESCUE MISSION to cough out a whole N60 Million naira despite our empty State Treasury, we better have a car full of Medals upon their return.
Since Governor Okorocha did not add that part, we might as well throw that in on his behalf. . .
Not sure if our Special Adviser on Sports, Nwankwo Kanu would be in Port-Harcourt to lend his SUPPORT to the Athletes considering he was absent at the Stadium when the Governor & Sports Commisioner Kenneth Emelu met with the Contingents.
In any case. . .
Here is wishing TEAM IMO a successful outing at the Sports Festival!
ALL THE BEST!.
