The wife of the governor of Imo State, Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha has stressed on the need for regular de-worming of children to reduce high rate of Worm infections among them.
Nneoma Nkechi Rochas Okorocha gave this hint on the occasion of mass de-worming of Imo children at Obowo Council headquarters, Otoko
According to her, worm infected children suffer from childhood malnutrition, anaemia, retarded mental development, slowed physical growth and reduced academic excellence.
The Imo First lady said research has shown that the disease affects mostly the poor in tropical and sub-tropical countries like Nigeria, while over seventy percent of these are children.
She commended the management of Neimeth Pharnaceutical Plc for donating large quantity of Pyrantrin drugs needed for the de-worming exercise and called for stakeholders partnership with government in eradicating worms among Imo children.
In her remarks the Director General, Imo Foundation, Barr Ngozi Njoku through whose office the donation was made said the action of the Pharmaceutical company was in line with the vision of the State governor in giving succour to the disadvantaged Imo people.
The representative of the company, Mr. Emmanuel Nwanonenyi said the exercise was their little way of giving back to the society. High points of the occasion was the installation of the wifew of the governor as the Grand Matron of the Pyrantrin Kids Club of the company as well as the de-worming of about one thousand Imo children with Pyrantrin Syrup and tablets by the wife of the governor who was accompanied by other dignitaries.
The wife of the governor later called on the wife of the late former governor of old Imo State Mrs Victoria Mbakwe at her country home, Avutu, Obowo where she informed her host that what the governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha is doing in the State is a replication of what late Chief Onunaka Sam Mbakwe did while in office as governor.
Mrs Victoria Mbakwe and her son, Chief Alex Mbakwe in their different remarks commended the leadership style of Governor Rochas Okorocha and assured of their support to his government.
