According to Leadership news, palpable tension is building up in the state over the re-run election ordered by the Court of Appeal sitting in Owerri for Oguta state constituency seat even as the state government and the All Progressives Alliance, APGA, have accused the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) of “importing thugs” into the state for the election slated for June 29, 2013.
In a statement read on the state radio, the state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Chinedu Offor alleged that the PDP has imported a number of terrorists to impede the smooth conduct of the election. He said because the PDP knows that it will not win the election free and fair it has made arrangement to cause mayhem to either disrupt the election or to rig it. The commissioner therefore warned parents to ensure that their children are not used for the nefarious operation, adding that it also plans to recruit youths to reinforce its imported team.
Also chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Prince Marshal Okafor Anyanwu in a radio interactive programme in Owerri yesterday corroborated the allegations of the Commissioner against the PDP. He said the PDP has imported terrorist to the state to cause problem during the election.
According to him, APGA has got reliable information that the PDP in the state has the support of the ‘Abuja politicians’ (alluding to the national assembly members from the state in PDP). He called on the people of Oguta not to allow strangers to destabilise the place because of the election adding that they are the ones that would suffer the aftermath. He said politics should not be a-do-or-die affair.
But in a reaction on the development, the PDP state publicity secretary, Chief Blyden Anajirionwu, described the allegations “as the ranting of losers.”
Amajirionwu said: “It is only the ranting of losers. We will beat APGA convincingly in the House of Assembly re-election. All they have accused us of are their plans which we have carefully scuttled.”
