Ndi Imo, what is this we are hearing about a high court ordering the disengagement of our honorable SSG, Prof. Anthony Anwukah?
According to the report:
The order is sequel to a suit brought against the embattled SSG by a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Every Child Educational & Advancement Foundation (ECEAF).
In the suit HOW/682/2011, the NGO had argued that Professor Anwuka, a former Vice-Chancellor of Imo State University (IMSU, Owerri is not fit to occupy the position of SSG having been indicted of fraud by a visitation panel set up by the immediate past administration of Chief Ikedi Ohakim which looked into the affairs of the university.
The Ohakim administration had issued a white paper in which government approved Anwuka’s retirement. It also ordered that he refunds the sum of N3.8million, being the value of the new 15-seater Mercedes Benz Bus which he took away at the end of his tenure as Vice Chancellor without approval.
Justice Opara asserted that the white paper was binding on the state governor who is the first defendant in the case, adding that the governor was duty bound to implement it. He further declared the appointment of Professor Anwuka as SSG and that of any other person indicted in the white paper dated June 2009 as unconstitutional, illegal, immoral, null and void and of no effect.
Justice Opara therefore directed the governor to terminate Anwuka’s appointment and that of any other person indicted in the said white paper holding position in the present government.
Meanwhile, the ECEAF has expressed displeasure that the incumbent government has not implemented the judgement since January 29, 2013 when it was given. It urged government to implement the judgement in order to save democracy in the state.- NEWSPOINT
