Imo State Government declares war on Child trafficking and child labor.

Imo State Government has said that it will declare war on Child Trafficking, Child labour and any other form of crime against humanity at the Government House, Imo State during a courtesy visit by members of National Agency for Prohibition of Traffic in persons or other Related Matters (NAPTIP).

Speaking, on Thursday, February 9, 2012, during a courtesy visit on the Chief of Staff to Imo State Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, the leader of the group, Mrs. Ebele Ulasi explained that most of the victims of trafficking in person and child labour are more endemic at the grassroots thereby revealing the change in strategy of the group to tackle the hydra-headed monster call child trafficking and child labour.

Furthermore, while soliciting for Government’s participation, she said that the only adoptable strategy is hands-on-deck approach to the menace. She said that it was on the above premise that the group had come for a Town Hall meeting, which is tentatively scheduled for February 24, 2012, co-opting all the traditional rulers in the State since they could reach out to the people at the communities better.

In response to the group’s mission, the Chief of Staff to Imo State Government extolled the efforts of NAPTIP in fighting the menace of Child trafficking and Child labour saying that it is a crime against humanity. He further expressed enthusiasm in the partnership being sought by the group saying that Imo State already had organized its community to further make the presence of the Government closer to the people through its fourth tier Government where the Monarch will be the nominal head with other elected officers at the community. He, however said that Traditional Rulers in Imo State are the Chief security officers of their various communities saying that the State had already declared war on all forms of crime and social vices. He however assure the participation of the Government since Governor Okorocha will at every other time supports such projects since it is in tandem with the Rescue Mission Agenda.
