Imo State Government writes PUNCH over false report.
The Imo State Government has written to the SUNDAY PUNCH editorial team through its spokesperson, Commissioner for Information & Srategy, Chinedu Offor.
Dated October 22nd, 2012, a copy of the letter made available to IMO STATE BLOG read as follows:
Editor: SUNDAY PUNCH
My attention has been drawn to the malicious, fictious and contemptible story by your reporter that His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha punched an aide to Governor Peter Obi. I am surprised that your newspaper could print such a one sided story obviously designed to ridicule the office and person of Governor Okorocha.
How come it was only your reporter, out of the dozens of news organizations that covered the event witnessed the alleged incident? I am at a loss on what reporter expects to gain by this imagination of a story.
Governor Okorocha is renowned world wide as a great philanthropist and peace maker and would never descend to the level of laying a finger on anyone. Your reporter should know that sitting arrangements are concluded in advance for Governors and is not a source of squabbles, hence Governor Okorocha could not have confronted anyone over the issue.
I hope you will give this rejoinder the same prominence you gave the false story while we explore other avenues for seeking redress over this failed attempt to ridicule the peoples Governor.
Signed,
Chinedu Offor
Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Imo State.
