Imo State Government launches “iBC TV International”

The International reach out arm of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation – IBC ‘I’ has been launched by the state Government.

Flagging off the international broadcast service, the state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha who was represented by the Speaker Imo State House of assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajimogu expressed delight that the dream of transforming the state owned electronic media has come to reality. He observed that the turn-around project of the Corporation is on full course as the TV and Radio stations are on the path of meeting the competiveness of international broadcast service.

Rt. Hon. Uwajimogu enumerated some landmark achievements of the present administration in the State to include free education and provision of massive infrastructure across the State. He therefore urged IBC staff to live up the challenges of their job.

In his address, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Chinedu Offor said  IBC ‘i’ is the outcome of a bilateral relationship between the Imo Broadcasting Corporation and the Voice of America and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). He explained that the affiliation of IBC to international media organizations would promote programme and manpower development to meet greater efficiency, international standard and competiveness.

Mr. Offor enumerated the efforts made by the Owelle Rochas Okorocha’s administration in rebranding IBC to include; construction of an ultra modern studio complex (Evan Enwerem Studio), provision of a back up 500 KVA generating set, approval for provision of earthing system to protect facilities of IBC among others.

Contributing, the Secretary to the state Government, Prof Anthony Anwuka commended the progress achieved in the Corporation and enjoined the staff to to live up to the challenges.

Earlier, the Director General of IBC, Mr. Alex Nwahiri noted that the commencement of IBC ‘I’ reflects the climax of the various efforts of the Gorvernor Okorocha’s administration to reposition and rebrand the IBC and pledged the support and co-operation of the staff.

He however appealed to government to provide a back up Radio Transmitter to ensure uninterrupted broadcast.
