IMSG celebrates 38th anniversary + Okorocha announces Mbaise Campus of IMSU!

owelle1Governor  Rochas Okorocha has announced that the Mbaise campus of Imo state University will commence this year to actualize the multi campuses of the state University. Owelle Okorocha stated this during the integrative session with cross section of Imo people to mark the 38th anniversary of the state.

The governor who also announced that work will soon commence at the college of education Technical Ihitte Uboma Local Government council area, said the decision was part of government’s efforts to give education its pride of place.

Governor used the occasion to render an account of his steward ship and attributed the success recorded to God and support of Imo people. He noted that among the numerous achievements recorded by his Rescue Mission administration, the best thing that has happened to the State was the of restoration of faith and believe of the people in government. “What has made Imo state great today is that people can now trust and believe government” He remarked.

Governor Okorocha thanked the House of assembly members and the traditional rulers for their support and identifying with his vision of placing the state on the part of progress and development. He further commended the community government council CGC and announced that CGC elections would hold before the end of February.

The Speaker Imo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajimogu recalled the joy that heralded the creation of Imo as a new State in 1976 with successive administrations.

He pointed out that one of the foremost leaders; Governor Sam Mbakwe provided the bedrock for the development of Imo State and subsequently the present Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha through his people Oriented programmes transformed the State and restored governance in Imo. According to the legislator, “Today we don’t need to wait for 8 years to notice a project in our communities”.

Rt. Hon. Uwajimogu averred that there are visible projects in every nook and cranny of the state, and pointed out that the latent potentials of the 537 communities in the state have been released through the community government Council {CGC).

He therefore called on Imo people to join hands with government to foster development in the state.

Ealier, the commissioner for Information and strategy, Dr. Theodore Ekechi said the celebration of Imo at 38th would provide government an opportunity to take stock of how well the state has fared in the past two and half years of the Rescue Mission administration. He also noted that the event would equally afford government and people of the state an opportunity to redress those imbalances and make up for the failures of the past.

Dr. Ekechi expressed optimism that Imo will experience a complete turn around before the end of the present administration.

In his brief comment, the Chairman Imo State Council of Traditional rulers, HRH Eze Samuel Ohiri thanked God for the peace and level of progress witnessed in the State since her creation in 1976.

He commended the efforts of past Imo leaders in the development of the State and extolled Governor Rochas Okorocha for his free education programme, Massive road construction and extensive infrastructural development.

The Royal father used the opportunity to appeal to all aspiring to position of leadership to be guided by the principle of service and fairness.

The event featured the unveiling of the Imo carnival crest and inauguration of the 2014 carnival committee headed by Paddy Obinna, with Nkiru Sylvanus as Secretary.
