Imo state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Friday August 28, 2015 met with the workers in the state with the leaders of the organized labour in the state in attendance and inform them that the bailout fund has been accessed.
The governor also set up committee made up of the Accountant-General, the Chief of Staff, the Principal Secretary, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Head of Service, as members.
The governor also directed the committee to ensure that all the salaries owed workers are cleared and payment must be made by cheques in line with the policy of the state government to check the ugly case of ghost workers.
The governor also directed that apart from the month of July salary owed Civil Servants, teachers and local government workers, they should also be paid the month of August and even the month of September in advance if the workers so desired. But the workers objected to the payment of the month of September salary.
The governor also directed that the salaries owed parastatals should also be cleared and the governor will be meeting with heads of the parastatals and leaders of the labour union next Tuesday to discuss on how to make the parastatals productive after paying them the outstanding salaries.
The governor equally said that the pensioners would be made to benefit from the payment even when the pension bailout fund has not come, and stressed that steps would be taken to reposition the civil service in the state.
According to the governor, there would be a total transformation of the civil service in the state.
In his speech the president of NLC in the state, Mr. Chilakpu asked posterity to continue to reward the governor favourably for choosing to be an honest leader, and assured the governor of their continued support and solidarity.
