The Imo state government has ordered the immediate investigation of the circumstances behind the death of eight members of Nwosu family in Umueze Nguru, Ngor-Okpala LGA.
Governor Okorocha issued the directive when he paid a condolence visit to the two surviving members of the family. He promised that the state government would collaborate with the law enforcement agencies to unravel the circumstances behind the death.
The governor expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the people of Ngor-Okpala and the Nwosu family and enjoined them to remain prayerful for God to give them the fortitude to bear the loss. He assured that government would come to the aid of the remaining members of the family as well as take over the cost of burial of the victims.
Briefing the governor earlier, Mr. Ikechukwu Emeana, a cousin to the deceased woman and her seven children, said that the incident occurred after the victims had eaten a delicacy of Ugba (oil bean). He disclosed that effort were made to rush them to Federal Medical Center Owerri, but regretted that the hospital staff did nothing to save the lives of his relations. He therefore appealed to the government to come to the aid of the family and ensure that the cause of the death is uncovered.
