#NigeriaDecides: Barr.Rex Anunobi speaks on APC’s winning chances.

Barr. Rex Anunobi  (Sokom), a grassroot mobilizer and strong voice in Orlu was among the notable PDP stalwarts who defected to the All Progressive Congress on Monday.

Anunobi was a two term chairman of Nkwerre Local Government Area, and served as a special adviser to ex- Governor Dr. Ikedi Ohakim. He is also a highly respected member of the Orlu Peoples Consultative Assembly (OPOCA). Until recently, he was the Director General for Senator Hope Uzodinma’s 2015 campaign.

In this exclusive interview with IMO STATE BLOG, Barr. Anunobi speaks on the winning chances of the All Progressive Congress in Imo state as we head to the polls.

IMO STATE BLOG: On Saturday, the Presidential elections will be held alongside the National assembly elections . Focusing on Imo state, do you think that the electorates have been adequately sensitized ?

Anunobi: The leading Parties here , APC and PDP have done their best in campaigns to sell their candidates to the Imo electorates. Gen.Muhammadu Buhari and President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan are not new to Imo electorates. With the robust campaigns of issues, the old concocted prejudices of the past against GMB is giving way to reason.

Despite the fact PDP generally is still deploying hate campaigns of religion and ethnicity against Gen.Buhari to win Imo, Pres. Goodluck Jonathan’s governance scorecard here is his albatross.

Owelle through his uncommon governance style and achievements here has made APC a preferred choice. Imo will be too close to call this time around, unlike in 2011 when the Parties in Imo adopted Pres. Jonathan and awarded him 99% of the registered votes.

For APC, the main issues that will decide this election are growing insecurity, high scale corruption ravaging the country, mass unemployment and hunger. Right now, the quest for Nigerian President of Igbo extraction has now assumed the front seat. Unlike Pres.Jonathan that has promised to hand over power to the North in 2019, Gen.Buhari has committed himself to hand over power to Ndigbo of South East after his Presidency. So the surest route to Ndigbo Presidency in the next 4 to 8 years is Gen.Buhari; while Pres.Jonathan will take us 20 years. Imo this time will vote for  Buhari and secure for him the Constitutional required votes for Imo to be part of his winning States.

IMO STATE BLOG: In 2011, Sen.Osita Izunaso lost out in the PDP party primaries to Sen.Hope Uzodinma. This time around, Izunaso hopes to reclaim the seat under the All Progressive Congress. What are the party’s chances in defeating the incumbent?

Anunobi: The political situation that worked against Izunaso victory then is not existent now. It’s a big plus for him, that Owelle is solidly backing him and the political calculation favours him as he’s being tipped for Senate President in the event of Gen.Muhammadu Buhari emerging President.

Again the major political group, Orlu Political Consultative Assembly (OPOCA) that worked against his reelection after spearheading his first Senate victory in 2007 has now reconciled with him under the very watch of Gov. Rochas Okorocha. OPOCA has thus endorsed him as the preferred choice for Orlu zone in the Senate with its attendant benefits working in collaboration with Owelle who also is from Orlu Zone.
