OFFICIAL REJOINDER: Okorocha locks out LG Council chairmen.

The attention of Imo State Government has been drawn to a news report which alleged that Governor Rochas Okorocha locked out council chairmen in the 27 LGAs during the 52nd Independence Anniversary.

The State Government views the said report as a display of irresponsible journalism owing to the fact that a reporter who is domicile in Abuja decided to throw the ethics of journalism profession into the wind apparently to satisfy the desire of his paymaster. The report in its entirety is malicious and falsehood peddled to deceive Imo people and Nigerians who are abreast of the latest development in respect to the 27 LGAs of the State.

It is no longer news that the two-year tenure of the said chairmen expired on August 8, 2012. It is also on record that their suit filed to elongate their tenure had since been thrown out by an Oweri High Court. Presently, the activities of the 27 LGAs are rested on the shoulders of the Directors of Administration and General Services (DAGS) pending the conduct of council elections. Hence the former council chairmen have not disputed the legitimacy of their two-year tenure as amended by the Imo State House of Assembly and accented to by the former Governor of the state, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, the state government wishes to use this medium to warn them against parading themselves as council chairmen as this is tantamount to impersonation in all ramifications.

We wish to set the record straight by stating emphatically that His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha never and will not contemplate to lock out anybody including the former council chairmen as he is ultimately engaged in numerous developmental activities towards transforming Imo into a model State where everyone will be proud of.

Therefore, the issue of locking out the former council chairmen does not arise as they have served out their tenure as well as lack the legitimacy to occupy the councils. This government is on rescue mission and all hands must be on deck to build Imo of our collective dream and aspiration even as we make bold to say that, Governor Okorocha is working tirelessly to make Imo better in our time.
