OKIGWE: Eze Basil Igwegbe fingered in kidnapping case; Police CP issues warrant.

According to Daily Times, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Mr Musa Katsina, on Friday gave a 24-hour ultimatum to a traditional ruler, Eze Basil Igwegbe, to report himself to the police for alleged complicity in an abduction case.

Igwegbe, who is the traditional ruler of Ogbogbu Autonomous community in the Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo, was on the run, following the arrest of his son, Simeon Igwegbe, for alleged kidnapping.

Katsina said that Igwegbe had shielded his son, a suspected kidnapper and receiver of stolen cars, although the monarch knew about the crime, adding that the traditional ruler escaped into the bush surrounding his house when he spotted the police.

“The traditional ruler is on the run, having realised the legal implication of shielding criminals. He will not have run if he was unaware of his sons actions but he escaped into the bush as soon as he sighted my men. He has not been seen since then.

“I am warning him to report himself to the nearest police station before the long arm of the law catches up with him,” Katsina said.

He warned that anyone who harboured or shielded a criminal or found to be a conspirator or informant, would be regarded as an accomplice and be made to face justice according to his level of involvement.
