The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate for Imo State Capt Emmanuel Ihenacho has said that he came out for governorship contest to rescue Imo people from the visionless government of Governor Rochas Okorocha.
The former Minister of Interior said this while addressing the people of Owerri Municipal during a campaign rally by his party at ‘Ugwu Ekwema’ Square Egbu Road Owerri.
Capt Ihenacho lamented that in 2011, the people of Imo State voted Governor Okorocha out of sentiments without proper evaluation. He said that because of the way the governor has personified governance in the state that it was clear that the governor came to rescue his siblings, family members, in-laws and close associates only from poverty and not Imo people.
He decried the fall in the educational standard in the state saying that under the Okorocha administration, the state had dropped from its earlier ninth position it used to occupy in the result of West African School Certificate Examination to the sixty-fourth position in the nation. He also said that the so much clamoured free education of the government is of very low quality and could hardly lead to job after graduation. He attributed it to lack of foresight on the side of the governor.
While urging the people to vote APGA in the oncoming elections, the business mogul who recently delved into the aviation industry said that it was unfortunate that Concorde Hotel which was the pride of the state finally died under the present government. He also said that because of lack of training and capacity, that the governor could not revive Avutu poultry, Standard Shoe Industry and ADAPALM.
‘The present Imo State Governor lacks the training and capacity to industrialize the state. You should not blame him because ‘one does not give what it does not have’. That is why the governor is busy building round-about, gates, inferior roads, infrastructures etc. This is because those things he is busy building do not require much intellectual work. But if I’m giving the opportunity, I will bring my capacity, training and experience to give Imo her desire which is industries and jobs. I have done it in the private sector where my companies have created thousands of jobs mostly for Imo people. I also did it when I was the Minister of Interior. I can also do it even better as a governor…’.
In his words:
‘I will first of all make sure that the state has an efficient power supply just like Ex-Governor Sam Mbakwe did, good road network, telecommunication and the necessary infrastructures that will attract industries. The industries would be wooed and they would be entreated into manufacturing most of the goods we use here. The excess of the goods after consumption are exported and the proceeds re-invested. By so doing, an economy and jobs will be automatically created for our people…’.
While berating the state government on its inability to keep Owerri City clean, the governorship hopeful promised to recover all the lands forcefully and illegally taken away from people by the present administration in the state.
While presenting the candidates of the party at the occasion, the State Deputy Chairman of APGA in the state Dr. David Iwuagwu said that when the party made Governor Okorocha its governorship standard-bearer for the 2011 governorship election in the state, that the governor ceaselessly swore oaths in churches and in many public gatherings then that he would not go for a second term in office. He said that it was an insult to Imo people for the governor to go for the All progressives Congress (APC) presidential primaries giving his in-law the governorship ticket APC in the state and after failing the presidential primaries to collect the ticket for a second term bid. He said that such a man who could not keep to his words lacks morals and thereby not fit to rule the state again.
Earlier before the occasion, Capt Ihenacho and other members of the party had made a road show round Owerri Municipal where they were greatly hailed by the crowd.
