A very ugly situation played out in Oguta on Sunday when a PDP rally in the Awa community attacked Governor Okorocha’s out-rider who was ahead of the convoy. We know that there will be different versions of this story in the news but this is the report we have.
According to information reaching IMO STATE BLOG, Governor Okorocha was returning from an inspection visit to the Oguta Motels project site and another site in the area when the drama took place.
Typically, the lead out-rider goes about 1 kilometer ahead of the convoy to clear traffic . As the out-rider approached the rally ground in Awa, he was ambushed, yanked off his bike and beaten to stupor. His radio was vandalized too.
When the Governor’s convoy approached the scene, the “Red cap” police men in the convoy went into combat mode ready for a showdown. It took the intervention of Governor Rochas Okorocha who alighted from his vehicle to plead with them. He said he didn’t want any blood bath. It takes a leader with the fear of God to know when to go to war and when to call for cease fire.
If that intervention did not happen, perhaps our headline would have been one of the following:
*BLOOD BATH IN OGUTA*
AWA YOUTHS CRY OUT*
*PDP RALLY WIPED OUT BY GUN FIRE*
*INEC POSTPONES OGUTA ELECTIONS*
