ONLINE ALBUM: Lady Evelyn Obeageli Nwapa’s burial at Oguta, Imo State.
On June 3rd, family and friends gathered at the St.Magdalene Cathedral Church of the Anglican diocese on the Lake ,Oguta to celebrate the life of Lady Evelyn Obeageli Nwapa (nee Mbadiwe) who passed on in April. She was aged 79.
A Nurse by profession, Lady Nwapa schooled at the Mary Slessor College, Cross Rivers state and the University College Hospital, Ibadan where she obtained her State Registered Nurse Certificate (SRN). She proceeded to the Eastern District Hospital, Glasgow Scotland where she qualified as a State Certified Midwife (SCM). Upon her return to Nigeria, Lady Evelyn Nwapa joined the Eastern Region of Nigeria Ministry of Health as a Staff Nurse. She rose to the ranks of Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) in the Imo State Government Health Management board and voluntarily retired in 1993.
In 1995, she and her husband Sir C.I. Nwapa were investitured into the Knighthood of St.Christopher. According to her daughter, Ogbuefi (Mrs) Adobi Nwapa, Lady Evelyn was a paragon of beauty and epitomized the traditional feminine characteristics of grace, poise, beauty and rectitude. These attributes earned her the name ‘Electric” given by her husband.
