POST-PRESS RELEASE: 2012 Armed Forces Remberance day celebration in Owerri..

The Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has called on all Nigerians to take stock and reflect on the supreme sacrifice paid by our fallen heroes for the cooperate existence of our country.

The Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha stated this in an address read on his behalf by his Deputy, Sir. Jude Agbaso during the 2012 Armed Forces and Remembrance Day Celebration and Wreath laying ceremony at the Heroes Square ,new Owerri.

The governor stated that the Armed Forces and Remembrance Day Celebration is an annual event which has been instituted by the Federal government to appreciate the sacrifices made by the members of the Armed Forces in protecting the territorial integrity and internal security of our great nation.

Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha said in view of this sacrifice, his administration has decided to honour them by raising the standard of the former Cenotaph and has renamed it “The Heroes Square” as well as the construction of a convention centre, after the Ikemba of Nnewi Dim OdImegwu Ojukwu.

He said that the present administration under his leadership also has hosted the first National Council meeting of the Nigeria-legion since the history of Imo state.

The governor used the occasion to salute the members of the Armed Forces and legionaries for their great courage, contributions and sacrifices over the years which has led to the continued cooperation existence of our nation.

He urged the Nigerian Legion and members of the Armed Forces to continue to keep faith with Nigerians as we consolidate and deepen democratic ideals in our nation.

The highlight of the occasion was the laying of wreath on the tomb of the unknown soldiers, by the Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, the commander 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze, the Commissioner of Police, Imo state, the Chief Judge of Imo state, and the Chairman Imo state Council of Ndi Eze among others.
