Imo state government is to offer free medical care to all teachers in the state school system. This was disclosed by the governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, while addressing teachers in the state who gathered at the Grasshoppers International Handball Stadium, Owerri, for screening and data collection.

Governor Okorocha said that the database being developed from the verification would create a social security card for government services and eliminate fake teachers from the school system.
He said that government would pursue the autonomy of each primary and secondary school where Principals and Head teachers would be in-charge of discipline and welfare of teachers and the development of teacher infrastructures in the schools.
Governor Okorocha also stated that teachers in the state would undergo compulsory free computer training to make prepare them for the computerization of all schools in the state.
He disclosed that government would embark on massive transfer of teachers and enhance has directed communities to assist teachers posted to their domains on accommodation.
He beckoned on teachers in the state to collaborate with him in efforts to restore the glory of education in Imo state.
Commissioner for Education, Prof. Adaora Ijezie, in a brief remark apologized to the teachers for the delay in payment of their salaries informing them that efforts at proper computerization of the salary system caused the delay and promised them of regular and due payment of salaries in subsequent months.
