The Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has given recognition and Staff of Office to the new Traditional Ruler of Lagwa community in Aboh Mbaise LGA, Dr. Anthony Elugwara thereby ending the over 20 years of leadership tussle in the area.
Presenting the Staff of Office to the Eze-elect, Owelle Okorocha said he came to rescue Imo people from bad leadership and ensure peace and security of lives in the various communities of the State.
He charged the Eze Elugwara to rule with the fear of God and carry the people of the community along, pointing out that with his recognition and Staff of Office, he has automatically become a member of the Traditional Council in the State and the Chairman of CGC in Lagwa Community.
The Governor commended the unity of purpose of Lagwa people in presenting their Eze for recognition and urged them to continue their support to the Rescue Mission. The Imo Chief Executive charged Traditional Rulers in the State to live an exemplary life and be transparent in their leadership as the Rescue Mission government will not condone forceful leadership but will continue to fight evil headlong in order to make Imo better and give the poor a sense of belonging.
He said his government has made successful achievements in combating kidnapping and criminal activities in the State and has put in place infrastructural facilities because it had continued to fight corruption and therefore urged the people to resist politicians with questionable character from becoming leaders.
The Governor who recalled that the deposed Traditional Rulers of Lagwa Community, Eze Cosmas Egbule Onyeneke and Obinugwu community in Orlu LGA, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya were dethroned for misconduct sometime ago, expressed satisfaction that Lagwa community now has a new Traditional Ruler while a Committee will be set up soon to look into the replacement of the deposed Traditional Rulers in Obinugwu community. In the interim, the Governor said the Chairman of Orlu Traditional Rulers Council will be in charge of the CGC in Lagwa community.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Community Government Council, Chief Val Mbamala thanked Governor Okorocha for rescuing Lagwa community from many years of darkness and noted that Dr. Elugwara was chosen as Eze-elect by Lagwa people for his outstanding qualities and good works in his community.
Presenting the Eze-elect to the Governor, the Chairman of Imo Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Samuel Ohiri maintained that the Rescue Mission government is poised to touch the lives of Imo people and commended Lagwa people for the peaceful selection of their Eze-elect.
In his response, Eze Dr. Anthony Elugwara thanked the Governor for liberating his people from misrule while he pledged his support to the Rescue Mission Government.
Eze Elugwara thanked the people of the area for the confidence reposed in him and promised not to disappoint them.
Contributing, one of the subjects in Lagwa, Mrs. Juliana Njoku said she was overjoyed that her community now has peace after many years of maltreatment and thanked God for sending Governor Okorocha to rescue them.
