Former U.S President Jimmy Carter receives Gov.Okorocha in Atlanta.
Former U.S President, Jimmy Carter has endorsed the Free Education programme in Imo State. On Tuesday, the 39th President of the United States received Governor Rochas Okorocha in Atlanta, Georgia.
In a release signed by the Commissioner for Information & Stategy, Mr.Chinedu Offor, Pres.Carter pledged the support of his foundation to the free education policy of Governor Rochas Okorocha.
Former U.S President Jimmy Carter has pledged the support of his foundation to the free education policy of Imo State Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha. He said Gov. Okorocha’s giant strides in youth education and empowerment should be emulated by other states in Nigeria. President Carter who spoke during a courtesy visit by Gov. Okorocha to his office in Atlanta also expressed support for a partnership between leading American institutions and the Imo Polytechnic and also, the Imo College of Advanced Professional studies.
” I express my total support for your programes and your effort towards creating a partnership between American and Imo schools” he said.
President Carter promised to work in close collaboration with Gov. Okorocha to initiate policies that further improve the lives of the poor. The American leader commended Gov. Okorocha for his development efforts since he assumed office and pledged to look at other areas to assist the state especially in health and poverty alleviation.
Gov. Okorocha assured president Carter that his administration will continue to give priority to education and promised increased efforts towards moving the state to greater heights.
“We are the only state offering free education at all levels because we believe our youths are our future.”
He said the training of youths should be the priority of any government. Gov. Okorocha commended the assistance of the Carter Foundation to several countries in different areas of need and extended an invitation to President Carter to visit Imo State.
Former Pres.Jimmy Carter served as President of the United States from 1977–1981. Some of the notable accomplishments of the Carter administration include the treaty of peace between Egypt and Israel and, the establishment of U.S. diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China.
As President of the United States, Carter was deeply committed to social justice and basic human rights. 31 years after leaving the White House, Pres. Carter continues to champion human rights around the world.
