The following information was sent from the Ministry of Information & Strategy. Please read.

Worried about the reappearance of dirt in Owerri metropolis, the Hon. Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Chinedu Offor said efforts are being redoubled by the state government to arrest the situation. The information Commissioner stated this while interacting with some news men in his office.

Mr. Offor explained that while government had continued to cart away refuse from designated refuse dump sites within and outside the Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe metropolis, some residents are still in the habit of dumping their refuse indiscriminately thereby making refuse disposal more difficult. He therefore appealed to all to ensure that wastes from their homes, offices and shops are properly disposed to make the job easier for State environmental workers.

He noted that government has commenced desilting of all drainage in the capital city as part of its aggressive approach to restoring a clean and healthy State.

He further assured that in a matter of few weeks, the capital city, Owerri will take its pride of place as the cleanest city in Nigeria and called for collaborative efforts of all.
