We are just hearing that Governor Okorocha will be giving out over N500 Million Naira to security agencies as a way of appreciating their relentless war against crime in the state.
According to a communique from the Government House, this disclosure was made by His Excellency at Ahiajoku Convention Center, Owerri, during the Expanded Security Council meeting, posited that the security agencies have so far lived up to expectation in the bid to make Imo a crime-free state.
“He said that officers and men of the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Civil Defence and Security Corp, State Security Services (SSS) Nigerian Immigration, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Nigerian Prisons, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) and Nigerian Custom will get N10,000 each from the largess.
Gov. Okorocha, who reviewed the security situation in the for 2012, said only 57 cases of kidnapping took place in the state as against the impression created in the media, while only few cases of robbery incidents were recorded within the year. While urging members of the public to ways make information available to security agents whenever there is a kidnap incident, Gov. Okorocha said all the victims were rescued unhurt, adding that payment ransom by relatives of the victims is also encouraging the evil act.
Gov. Okorocha added that government and security agencies in the state have come up with stringent strategies to ensure that Imo people coming back to the state during the Yuletide sleep with their eyes closed, promising that security agents will always maintain surveillance within the period. He decried the activities of some legal practitioners over cases of kidnapping lamenting that their actions have largely encourage kidnapping at the detriment of the state.
Declaring them enemies of the state, Gov. Okorocha further disclosed that his administration will procure sophisticated security gadgets and equipment to assist security agencies in the war against kidnapping and criminality in the state. “
