Governor Rochas Okorocha has urged the representative of Pope Benedict the XVI, His Grace, Most Rev Augustine Kasuja to pray for the peace, understanding and unity of the state.
Governor Okorocha who received the Pope’s representative on arrival at Sam Mbakwe International Airport, Owerri noted that the state Rescue Agenda is geared towards improving the standard of the common man in the state.
He expressed delight over the visit of Papal Nuncio which he described as a blessing to the state and entire country, and urged him to pray for the state and the country especially now that the nation is facing some security challenges.
He however recalled the overwhelming efforts and support of Catholics in the state during the last governorship election which he noted propelled his emergence to the governorship position of the state.
Governor Okorocha who declared that catholic is as good as democracy, asserted that the state is dominated by catholics who voted overwhelming to ensure his victory.
Earlier, the Papal Nuncio, His grace, Most Rev Augustine Kasujja who called on governor Okorocha said he is on a pastoral visit in the state to ordain 26 priests in Okigwe Diocese as well as to open a new parish.
Rev Kasujja also stated that his presence as a representative of Pope Benedict XVI means that the Pope is in the state as well as accord the local church a sense of belonging to the big catholic family.
Also present at the visit were the Deputy Governor, Sir Jude Agbaso, the SSG, Prof Awuka and Prof Maurice Iwu, former chairman of INEC
