National Teachers Institution has commended Imo Governor’s feat in the education sector especially his all round free education scheme to accommodate the poor and the poorest of the poor.
The effort of the Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha OON may have begun to receive appreciation of people and institutions. It would be recalled that free and compulsory education was declared by Imo Governor at the inception of his Rescue Mission Government at both Primary and Secondary Schools which was the kernel of his campaign promises.
In the first week of April, 2012, he raised the bar of governance when he extended same to the Imo State owned Tertiary Institutions.
Speaking for the NTI delegation, Dr. Idris Sule Mbayal, Director, Field Operations and Students’ Services during a courtesy call on the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Prince Eze Madumere KSC, said that the NTI delegation had come to deliver a nomination letter to the Governor as one of the recipients of Fellow of NTI Award alongside with Dr. Namadi Sambo, the Vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the President of the Common Wealth of Learning, Canada.
The NTI head of delegation called on other Governors to sincerely emulate the Governor Okorocha since education is everything and a sine-qua-non for development of any society. He revealed that Governor Okorocha’s sincere vision of contributing immensely to the development of the Nation is never in doubt as it predates his emergence as the Governor. “Look at his Rochas Foundation College and how many years it has been run with quality. It is scattered in various zones of the country. Today, in Imo State, he has taken another bold step to impact on his people. That is sincerity of purpose. For us it is a meritorious honour well deserved”, he enthused.
Chief of Staff to Governor Okorocha, Prince Eze Madumere KSC, in his response, thanked the delegation of National Institute of Teachers for their visit and for their kind and sincere gesture. He said, there is nothing as good as acknowledging one when he has done well since it serves as a motivation to the doer. He told the delegates from the said institute that all the feats of Owelle Rochas Okorocha led administration is linked to sacrifice and legacy driven. He promised to convey their message to the Governor and promised that Governor Okorocha would appreciate their gesture.
