Governor Okorocha reiterates determination to boost agricultural produce in Imo.
Governor Rochas Okorocha has reiterated his determination to boost agricultural produce in the state, especially in the communities of the state towards ensuring food sustainability and creation of employment opportunities for Imo people.
Okorocha stated this at the Ikemba Ojukwu Convention Centre, Owerri, while addressing Transition Committee Chairmen of Local Government Areas, traditional rulers and other stakeholders in Agriculture on how to boost agriculture in various communities across the state through the help of a South African Agricultural experts.
The governor who just returned from an economic trip to Europe and Asia countries, pointed out that the communities, LGAs, state and federal government should put food on the tables of its citizens, noting that without which the government has failed in one of its obligations to the people.
The number one citizen of Imo State charged traditional rulers of various communities in the state to procure not less than 5 hectares of land for the commencement of Agricultural enhancement programme by the foreigners and urged them to assist in its total success.
The leader of the South African Agricultural experts Ms. Brylyne Clitsunge while fielding questions from journalists said that they were in Imo State to assist the government, which according to her indicated interest in boosting Agriculture in Imo State. Clitsunge pointed out that African Countries should endeavour to produce their foods and not to import from other countries of the world, assuring that they will do their best to boost Agriculture in the State in the nearest future and commended governor Okorocha for his good intention for the people of the state. She however urged the people of Imo State, especially stakeholders in Agriculture to ensure the success of the programme in the state.
Among those present at the occasion were the SSG, Prof. Anthony Anwuka, Chief of Staff, Prince Eze Madumere, Hon. Luke Chukwu and Commissioner for Agric, Hon. Victoria Ijezie, SSAs, SAs and a host of other prominent Imolites.
