I used to revere Hon. Mbadiwe Emelumba as a highly cerebral person and accomplished journalist of repute until his recent until his recent desperate and infantile propaganda aimed at dragging the name of Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha to the mud. Hon. Mbadiwe Emelumba who spoke as the Commissioner for Information in the Hope Uzodinma administration has so reduced issues of governance to mere “street njakiri” level, making a cacophony of serious business of governance.
Hon. Emelumba’s recent gaff is the shameful display of an official government vehicle procured during the Ihedioha administration which the now government of Governor Hope Uzodinma has taken delivery of. Hear Mbadiwe Emelumba, that while Governor Hope Uzodinma would now enjoy the vehicle, that the Ihedioha administration was too extravagant to procure such expensive vehicle which his boss has taken delivery of and is willing to use same in his new found office of governor.
I wish to remind Hon. Emelumba that upon taking over from then former Governor Rochas Okorocha, Rt. Hon. Ihedioha did not meet a single official vehicle from former governor Okorocha as staff car. There was no operational vehicle at the Government House when Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha took over the Douglas House. It is on record that Governor Ihedioha ran Imo State with his personal vehicles for over four months before the first set of vehicles procured under his administration began to arrive. Rt. Hon. Ihedioha was in power for only seven months and few weeks and Governor Uzodinma is now taking delivery of vehicles procured by under Ihedioha as Governor. It is on record that top aides, Commissioners and LGA Chairmen under former Governor Okorocha vanished with their official vehicles.
Conversely, upon taking over in after 14th January, 2020, Governor Uzodinma and his men, Hon. Emelumba inclusive inherited enough operational vehicles from Rt. Hon. Ihedioha and his aides. There was no complaint from Governor Uzodinma and his team that they met a looted and plundered Government House and ministries. They started enjoying from Day 1, while those who served under the Ihedioha administration used their private vehicle for over four months before the first set of vehicles procured on behalf of the state began to arrive.
It is on record that Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha inherited a broken system when he assumed office on the 29th May, 2020. He got down to work from the first day, engaging the services of major captains of industries in the Nigerian corporate world. They drew up a road map in line with his manifesto which Hon. Ihedioha being a people oriented Governor began to implement for the seven months he held sway. By the first hundred days in office, Governor Ihedioha built beacons of good governance. He changed the story and impression about Imo State and attracted interest of global development partners to Imo State. Within his 100 days in office he showed a clear path where Imo was going. He changed Imo people’s orientation and attitude towards government and governance. He revamped the state from a dysfunctional state to the organized system which Governor Uzodinma inherited.
It is unfortunate that Emelumba’s answer to the salaries and pensions now being owed under Governor Uzodinma is to be complaining that a vehicle procured under Governor Ihedioha which he never used and which his boss has taken delivery of is exorbitant. This is how pedestrian, childish and mundane the government of Governor Hope Uzodinma is. Hon Emelumba should be worried that within just three months, Imo State moved from a state where salary was paid up to date by December, 2019 under Ihedioha, to a state where IMSU and Imopoly staff are being owed from January to March. Today must parastatals and agencies like Board of Internal Revenue BIR are being owed March salaries in a week when they should be expecting April salaries. Hon. Emelumba has told many lies why this government would not pay LGA workers until he has ran out of excuses. Just last week, Governor Uzodinma accepting pressure from social media purportedly ordered payment of pensions by Friday last week. Till date no pensions have not been paid. Imo teachers are begging for their salaries amidst the Covid-19 lockdown. Truly Hon. Emelumba has no shame.
It is a shame that Hon. Emelumba’s sudden task in governance is to tell Imo people how much a vehicle delivered to his boss cost, just in his desperate and infantile bid to disparage Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha, the man who placed Imo on the path of progress which they inherited without outstanding liability arising from his seven months service as governor. Hon. Emelumba should learn that the more he tries to drag governor Ihedioha the deeper his poor performing government sinks. It is clear that the Uzodinma administration is living under the shadows of the Ihedioha’s sterling performance in seven months.
There is no gainsaying that Hon. Emelumba is chasing shadows. It is clear that Hon. Emelumba is desperately looking for ways to please his boss. He is doing what in english parlance is called “busy doing nothing”, But this mundane issue being raised by Emelumba reminds us on a sad note how much governance has been thrown to the dogs under the current administration in Imo State. Imo is indeed in deep trouble.
