Our prayers are with the family of Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu on the death of his father, His Royal Highness, Igwe Mathias Ekweremadu.
Confirming news of the demise to IMO STATE BLOG, the Special Adviser on Media to Sen.Ekweremadu, Mr.Uche Anichekwa disclosed that Igwe Mathias Ekweremadu passed on to glory in the early hours of Thursday morning (March 29th, 2012) after a brief illness at the University Teaching Hospital, Enugu. He was aged 82 years.
Before his demise, Igwe Mathias Ekweremadu was the traditional ruler of Anekeoji Mpu Autonomous Community in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State.
A press statement from the Deputy President of the Senate described his late father as a disciplinarian who was compassionate, accommodating, and led an exemplary life.
Indeed, Igwe Mathias Ekweremadu bows out from earth as a contented gentleman. We thank him for giving us a leader in the person of Senator Ike Ekweremadu who he has raised to be one of the greatest leaders Nigeria can boast of today.
We pray that the Lord grants the Ekweremadu Family the fortitude to bear the loss. Rephrasing the the words of Senator Ike Ekweremadu himself from his tribute speech to Ojukwu, one thing is certain, Igwe Ekweremadu’s house will not fall neither will the crows and vultures patch the legacy he leaves behind.
Burial arrangements will be announced by the family at a later date.
Adieu Igwe! Laa nu udo!
