What more can we do than to join IMOLITES all over the world to pray that our new Honourable Minister of Aviation, Princess Stella Oduah – Ogiemwonyi would give her nod of approval to upgrade the Sam Mbakwe Airport when she visits?
Barely weeks into her tenure as Aviation Minister, she has wasted no time in addressing the urgent needs of the Aiports she visited so far. In Kaduna, she has ordered the immediate rehabilitation of the Kaduna Airport. The Honourable Minister also promises that unsatisfactory conditions in Airports will not be condoned under her watch.
In Delta, it is being reported that she was particularly satisfied with the Standard of the Airport.
Also, while meeting with Gov.Peter Obi in her office recently, she assured that the Akanu Ibiam International airport will be given the needed face-lift (Surgery – LWKMD) through extensive rehabilitation and expansion.
While we wait for her to visit Imo State, it is saddening to note that indigenes are full of grief when recounting their experiences at the Sam Mbakwe Aiport.
According to one indigene who expressed regrets over the State of the Airport, we are not anywhere close to demanding for an International Standard Airport from the Federal Government:
The distance of the tarmac is so small. Just one road. I dont think up to 5 planes can park there comfortably. Infact, ABC Transport will do a better job at giving you your luggages than the Airport staff. It is a mess! Nothing to write home about. They should bring it to a mininum standard of any airport then after some years , they can now consider making it an international Airport.
Another source confirmed that our so called AIR NIGERIA is one of the WORST passenger flights. Sometimes, they outrightly cancel flights. If you are lucky, your flight will be delayed.
May God deliver us.
Anyway, from what we have read and heard of the Honourable Minister of Aviation seems like she is on the post to work. Lets hope the Sam Mbakwe Airport will be rebranded under her watchful eyes. #IMO MUST BE BETTER. Insha Allah!
