NIGERIA vs MOROCCO: 25 years after the miracle of Dammam – Joi John

It is said that history ALWAYS repeats itself. Our match played on Saturday, January 25th against Morocco takes us back to a notable reference in Nigeria’s Sports history – the Miracle of Dammam (1989)

We were up against the then Soviet Union, down 4 goals to Nil. Suddenly, 15 minutes into the second half , the atmosphere became charged. Within a span of 30 minutes, the Flying Eagles replied all 4 goals back to back;  the 4th goal coming just minutes away to the final whistle. With a scoreline of 4-4, the game moved on to a Penalty shoot out that  led to a 5-3 smashing  victory for Nigeria.

25 years later, we celebrate our home – based Super eagles on yet another memorable moment in Sports history. I am overjoyed!  As we bask in the glory of this memorable match, we attribute all praises to the Almighty for re-working the “miracle of Dammam” in our favour  to defeat Morocco: 4-3.

Kudos once again to Coach Stephen Keshi for instilling confidence in the team and motivating them to victory.

To Alhaji Aminu Maigari and the entire members of the Nigeria Football Federation, I salute. With all that goes on behind the scenes, you’ve managed to rise above the challenges to keep TEAM NIGERIA stable. Thank you!!

Lastly, this post will be incomplete without acknowledging all the efforts made by Pres.Goodluck Jonathan in transforming our Sports sector. We must give honour to whom honour is due. Under the Jonathan administration, Nigerian soccer has been delivered from the manacle of mediocrity.Thank you very much, Mr.President for an amazing job done so far.

Congratulations everyone.

God bless Nigeria!
