Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, the Speaker Imo State House of Assembly, has said that he was contesting the Okigwe senate seat to deliver service, further contribute to the advancement of its people, create jobs for the teaming youths and provide visionary leadership, that will empower and galvanize the people and its abundant natural resources for development.
He added that it was in a bid to create jobs for the youths and women in the zone that he devoted his entire life to human capacity development and enhancement of welfare of those he found at the cross-roads.
Uwajumogu in a chat with reporters, said if elected, that his priorities will be employment Generation, agriculture, infrastructure, education, sponsorship of people oriented bills and motions, attraction of federal government projects, security, health, revamping of Okigwe regional water project and industrialization of the area.
According to him, the best way to guarantee development in okigwe zone is to create jobs for the teaming youths and women to take care of families. He pointed out that no amount of selfish politicking or politically manipulated outdated zoning arrangement can guarantee development, if the youths and women were unemployed, hence his determination as Speaker of the state, to spearhead enactments of laws and motions that guaranteed a new beginning for the people of Okigwe zone.
The Speaker said since he resumed office three years and some months ago, he has stepped up efforts in training and empowerment of thousands of youths and women.
He asserted that his Speakership produced a great turn around for the Zone and its people, as it attracted for employment generation, three institutions of higher learning, the Malaysia modern market at Obowu, the resuscitation of Avutu poultry and the Nsu tiles that is ongoing, and other life changing projects, like, provision of new schools in each of the electoral wards of the zone, attraction over 15km of asphalted road in the six local governments that make up the zone, a modern general hospital in all the local governments of the zone, the urban renewal of Okigwe town and other satellite cities and many more.
‘’ I stand to be corrected, but I make bold to say that with devotion and dedication, I have genuinely contributed to the all round development of my people and zone, and I want to go to the senate to consolidate on what is already achieved’’, he declared.
He said,’’ my ambition is driven by the desire to provide a platform, so that the abundant human and natural resources of Okigwe zone can be harnessed for development. Okigwe zone has not been lucky with quality representation before now, this is what I sincerely want to change and that is why am in the race for senate’’.
Uwajumogu promised that if elected to represent Okigwe Zone in the senate, he will work to attract cottage industries and vocational training centres in the six local government areas that make up the zone, so that the youths and women can be trained in vocations and skill acquisition in acts and craft, aquaculture, soup and cosmetic making, catering, computer training, photography and many more, while products of these centres will access interest free loans from cooperatives and thrift societies that will be established in all local governments of the zone.
‘’I shall re-invigorate scholarships and bursary schemes to deserving students and strategically partner with the state executive on its free education policy to guarantee the sustenance of our education and youth empowerment programme’’. He added.
