Okigwe zone of Imo State was practically brought to a political stand still on the 19th of November 2011 when the people of Umuihi/Ihinna autonomous communities in Ihitte/Uboma Local Government honoured their son and the Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin
Chukwuemeka Uwajumogu.

The civic reception for this great son of Imo State was held at the “ANAMEKWE stadium” in Umuihi, Ihitte/Uboma LGA under the auspices of Umuihi/Ihinna Consultative Forum (UICF). The two communities came together in one spirit through synergistic understanding to ensure a hitch free reception. No wonder prominent citizens of the state including the state governor (represented), serving commissioners, Special Advisers, Honourable members of Imo State House of Assembly,
Clergy Men, Business Men, Traditional Rulers, school children, Traders, Farmers etc consciously abandoned their activities on Saturday 19th 2011 and trooped down to Ihitte/Uboma to catch a glimpse of this great son of Imo State who has provided an enabling environment at the Imo State House of Assembly where other lawmakers ventilate their minds through robust legislative dialogue, debates and discussion which has really integrated inculcated incorporated and aggregated the developmental interests of Imo people.

In his speech, the coordinator of Umuihi/Ihinna Consultative Forum (UICF) Dr. Okey Anukwuem submitted that Okigwe zone has been in jubilation and praises to the Almighty God since the emergence of Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu as the Speaker of Imo State House of Assembly. His joy knew no bounds when he revealed that Okigwe zone which was politically marginalized in terms of developments and integration between 2007 and MAY 2011 is beginning to wear a new look, courtesy of Mr. Speaker’s robust relationship with the executive arm of the Rescue Mission Leadership of His Excellency Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha.

Hear the coordinator:

“Sir, we must not fail to appreciate your sacrifice so far and all what you have been doing for the people of Imo State within these few months of your speakership. It might interest you to know that even before your current status, we have all in one way or the other benefited from your unquenchable philanthropism which transcends every social and political boundaries and even ideological and psychological differences. You are indeed a man whose peace approach to life has endeared you to an enviable character.

The coordinator (Dr. Anukwuem) thereafter made some requests from the state government through Mr. Speaker. Responding, Rt.Hon Uwajumogu thanked Umuihi and Ihinna communities for the honour.  He expressed happiness that Okigwe zone through Ihitte/Uboma is showing gratitude for the new and current developmental projects going on in the zone. He also enjoined them to continue to support the Rescue Mission Government of Owelle Rochas Okorocha.

Hear the vibrant Speaker:

“I am so grateful to God that I am part of this present government that is on a Rescue Mission. This government will emerge as the best in the history of Imo State. We have already started moving in that direction and at the end of our tenure in 2015; Imo people will with their own mouth testify that we are the best. Okigwe zone is currently experiencing the opening of new roads. Owerri and Orlu zones are also experiencing the same thing. 15 km of roads will be constructed in each of the local government areas of the state.

Just as we have CONCORDE HOTEL in Owerri, another five star hotel will be situated in Okigwe town and we have already secured the land where the project will be built”.

Mr. Speaker continued,

“Let us use this opportunity to unite. Imo State is one, Okigwe zone is one and we are all one and equal before Almighty God. Let us have a society where after training our children in the Universities, they will come out with improved skills. We have been receiving the same amount of money from the federal Allocation, just as previous governments also received. The only difference is that we are working and Imo people are seeing what we are doing with their funds. We are neither greedy nor selfish. We have had opportunities in the past to develop Okigwe zone but the vision to actualize such opportunity was not there because our sons and daughters who has the opportunity failed woefully. All the failed water projects will be re-visited and re-activated.

My people, I am not an “ALA-BINGO” politician. I am here to serve you with all my heart and I promise never to disappoint you”.

Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu also enjoined the youths to form cooperatives and after which they could approach government for assistance. The speaker’s response was followed by a prayer session by a team of clergy men and prayer warriors for the Ebullient Speaker and his wife, Mrs. Eileen. The Highlight of the reception was the presentation of several souvenirs and other awards to Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu from various organizations and groups including a white Horse.

The Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency Owelle Rochas Okorocha who was represented by Hon. Ikechukwu Amuka (member representing Ideato South State Constituency) thanked Ihitte/Uboma people in particular and Okigwe zone in general for honouring their illustrious son and speaker of IMHA.

Hear the Governor’s message:

“Your son has added value to this government. He is leading Imo House of Assembly like a father. Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu represents the establishment of this government. He is the conscience of this government, hence he is the chairman coordinating committee of all constructions in Imo State. He has all it takes to lead this state someday. I am happy you have honoured him today.

Earlier before then, there was a match past by the women’s wing of Umuihi/Ihinna consultative forum. Various cultural groups and dance organizations entertained the large crowd present.

No doubt, the people of Umuihi/Ihinna communities in Ihitte/Uboma LGA have proved their total love and confidence in their son, the Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu.

Indeed, the 19th of November 2011 will be remembered in Imo State as the day a prophet was honoured at home by his own people.
