Free school uniforms for pupils in Imo State effective, January 2012

Imo state government has concluded arrangements to procure 500,000 uniforms, including sandals, to be distributed free to all pupils and students in the state public primary and secondary schools.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dr Obinna Duruji, while disclosing this to newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Owerri, added that the use of these free uniforms would be effective in January, 2012 while samples for free desks and seats are being considered for procurement.

He further said that the State Health-at-your doorsteps programme involving free testing and first-aid kits and the school back-to-land farm project would be launched very soon.

Dr Duruji also said that council also ratified and adopt-a-school programme by wealthy individuals in renovations, construction and repairs. The Commissioner also disclosed that the council has put everything in place for the “Ejirimara Imo Cultural Festival” which would begin on 17th December, 2011 with the Ahiajoku Lecture and end on 23rd December, 2011 with traditional dances at the Heroes Square, Owerri.
