MEMO to Hon.Minister of Works: South-Eastern Roads -Death zone

I recently took a trip to Calabar. The state ofSouth Eastern roads have gone worst. Travelling from Enugu to Okigwe is like going to hell. The Enugu – Port Harcourt dual carriage road is now in its worst state than ever.

Okigwe to Umuahia is worst. My experience from Umuahia to Aba was terrible. Commuting from Aba to Ikot Ekpene is like taking a suicide ride. When you arrive Akwa Ibom, it is different. The situation of Enugu – Abakalilki road is sad. The Onitsha – Enugu road  is a  death trap.

The deaths on these roads daily are almost the highest in Nigeria. I will like someone to educate me on why these roads have been left to continue to kill easterners daily. From 1999, these roads have continuously left untouched. Why?

Let me use this medium to thank   Senator Pius Anyim, Former Senate President and the SGF for the Afikpo – Okigwe Road. I will also pay tribute to Late Evans Enwerem for the Owerri – Onitsha Road ; for the portions handled by Julius Berger. These two roads are the minimum standard required in the South East as Federal Roads.

Please Sir, Arc. Mike Onolememen (Hon. Minister of Works)

Kindly take note.

Phil Ezeogu
