Receiving the ebullient legislator and his entourage ,the first son of Dee Sam Mbakwe, Chief Alex Mbakwe thanked Mr. speaker for the visit and urged him to emulate his Late father’s virtues and leadership qualities. He complained of the very bad nature of the roads in OBOWO saying that the roads were yet to be rehabilitated many years after his Late father left office. He also complained of the dilapidated nature of primary and secondary schools in the area which has made pupils and students of the community to continue to learn under “unhealthy” conditions. However,
Chief Alex Mbakwe thanked Mr. Speaker
for the vibrant manner he has been piloting the affairs of the Imo State House of Assembly, predicting that the good – old days when the
legislature genuinely assisted the executive in bringing smiles to the people of the State appears to be back again.
The Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu in reactions to the problems of the OBOWO community as presented by the son of the Late former Governor revealed that the State government has started bringing governance closer to the people through the setting up of community speakership otherwise known as 4th their of government.
He argued that such arrangement would present infrastructural problems of every community faster to government. Speaker Uwajumogu disclosed that the present leadership is investing the sum of N100million naira monthly in every local government and that the funds would take care of infrastructural decay in schools and Health centre across the State.
On the conditions of roads in OBOWO L.G.A, the legislator disclosed that the famous SAM MBAKWE road in the L.G.A would be
rehabilitated once the rainy seasons are over.
Hear Mr. Speaker:
“I am aware of the nature of the roads in this L.G.A. you will agree with me that currently we are in rainy season and roads are not constructed or rehabilitated within this period. All the same, I will bring the attention of the State governor on the need to at least rehabilitate the SAM MBAKWE road which is now a death trap. OBOWO community gave us DEE SAM who is turn industrialized and developed the Old Imo State.
Imo people are ever grateful and thankful to OBOWO people. We must show love and reciprocate this gesture by making sure that this community is not left out in the scheme of things.”
The highlight of the visit was when Chief Alex Mbakwe conducted the Speaker and his entourage round the large compound.
At the grave side of the Former governor, prayers were made for the continued repose of the great soul of DEE SAM MBAKWE.
Earlier before then, the widow of the late former governor, lady Victoria Mbakwe expressed happiness over the visit, pointing out that previous governments never visited them. She insisted that with the visit in so short a time, that good things were indeed coming.
