Inspector-General of Police, Hafiz Ringim and the unmerited National Honour, CFR.

Finally, the 2011 National Honours Awards has come and gone. All roads led to the International Conference Centre (ICC), Abuja in honour of the Nigerians who made the 2011 National Honours list. Inspector General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim was conferred with the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) Award by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The National Awards were meant to honour Nigerians who have rendered service to the benefit of the nation. We live in a Country where kidnappings and brutal killings have become the order of the week in select parts of the Country. Citizens now sleep with one eye open due to insecurity.

The bombing of the Police Headquarters is still fresh in our minds. We are also aware of the bombing of the United Nations building in Abuja. How long will we fold our hands and watch innocent lives being wasted?

It might interest us to know that a few days ago, the American Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) ranked Nigeria fourth place in its global ranking in Hostage taking and kidnapping. They also identified Nigeria as the greatest threat to cyber security in Africa.

Other countries are entitled to their opinions about us but, what do we Nigerians think of our own National Security ? Is it any better than what it used to be prior to IGP Ringim’s appointment?

The conferment on the Police I.G Hafiz Ringim has left many Nigerians confused. What outstanding contribution has Mr. Ringim brought to the Police Force?

Mr. President Sir, in what way does the I.G merit this National Honour?

Only very few people deserved the 2011 national merit award from the president GEJ.
In my own assessment, those that deserved the award are :
Dangote : As an industrialist , he was able to create job opportunities to many Nigerians apart from sponsoring GEJ in his electioneering campaign this year .
Diezani alison Madueke : As the minister of petroleum resources, she was able to ensue that Nigerians never lacked petrol in all filling stations across the country. She is hardworking and has promised that our refineries shall be up and doing.
Rochas Okorocha : He deserved to be given a national award for his doggedness to transform imo state into a state the citizens would be proud of and the free education he introduced for the first in the history of the state, and in addition to the award of scholarship to deserving indigens.
None of the nation’s service chiefs and the IGP deserved the national awards in as much as the security of the country and her citizens is not guaranteed. Boko Haram has been successfully carrying out onslaught against innocent Nigerians in some parts of the country as if the nation has no security chiefs.
Instead of relieving them of their positions and new ones appointed in their place , government went ahead to honour them with merit awards .
What did they contribute to the development of the country as to merit these awards ?
Answer : nothing
