PHOTOS -The Grande Finale: Rt.Hon Benjamin Uwajumogu's Football tournament

Rt. Hon Benjamin Uwajumogu  kicks off the match as he sends the ball in the air  with a powerful strike. 

The second edition of Youths Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) sponsored under 17 Imo speakers cup tournament came to its climax on the 11th of November, 2011 at the DAN-Anyiam Stadium Owerri with the team from Owerri West Local Government Area carrying the cup.

The football tournament which started on the 14th of October 2011 with all the teams from the 27 Local Government Area in the State reached its finals between Team Owerri West and Team Owerri Municipal. The competition which commenced at 12.30pm saw Team Owerri Municipal scoring the first goal at 1.12pm (42mins after), but the Owerri West Team equalized at 52 minutes (1.22pm).

The two teams tried their best in the second half but could not score any other goal after 90mins. This led to a penalty shoot out with Owerri West scoring five (5) goals and Owerri Municipal three (3) goals.

In his remark, the sports loving Speaker, RT. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu
praised the two teams for displaying ingenious skills and better techniques, noting that Imo State has better talents in sports.

“The Imo State House of Assembly is happy to be associated with YSFON and we will ensure better sponsorship in the years to come. Because of the skills you have displayed today, we are also increasing the prize money from N100, 000 to N250, 000 for the winning team and N50, 000 to N150, 000 for the runners up. As we are fishing out hidden talents in sports, I urge you to shun crime and join the state government in her Rescue Mission to salvage the state.” – Rt.Hon Uwajumogu

The highlight of the occasion was when Mr. Speaker handed over the trophy to the captain of Team Owerri West.
