Top US Celebrity Boxing Promoter, Ike Enwereuzor arrives Nigeria.

Few weeks to the maiden edition of President Goodluck Jonathan Boxing Championship billed for Enugu, a US-based boxing agent, Ike Enwereuzor, arrived Enugu, Nigeria over the weekend to give the championship a boost.

Chairman of the Main Local Organising Committee (MLOC), Mr. Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, said Enwereuzor came from United States of America to render assistance to Enugu State Boxing Association and to bring his technical expertise to Nigeria boxing.

“I’m happy that one of our renowned Nigerian Boxing agents based in the United States of America is here in Enugu. He came because of the forthcoming President Goodluck Jonathan Boxing Championship. Our local boxers have a lot to benefit from him. One of the things he’ll do is help organise coaching clinic for our local coaches as well as boxers and officials of the State boxing council”. said Okoronkwo.

Also, there are plans by Lion Boxing Club in Conjunction with Jacboxing Promotions, Enwereuzor’s Sports Consult to bring in experts from America to meet with thesports minister and chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), on how to move Nigerian boxing forward.

The former 1992 welterweight African Champion, Ikechukwu Okoronkwo hinted that Lion Boxing Club is bent on repositioning Nigerian boxing, adding that they had plans to meet with the President of Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) to discuss the way forward for Nigeria boxing and also get the services of a Cuban expert to coach Nigerian boxers.

Lion Boxing Club is working round the clock to ensure that boxing in Nigeria returns to its former prestigious position. There are also plans to meet with NBF president and the minister on how to reposition Nigerian sports, especially sports that are no longer doing well in the international scene. Boxing is one of them.

We must bring back the glory of boxing to where it was before now.

Our very own Ike Enwereuzor is a proud son of Lorji, Aboh Mbaise,LGA . He currently enjoys a Successful career as a Boxing Agent in the United States. Over the years, he has had the opportunity to work with great Boxing heavy weights , Don King, Laila Ali, Evander Hollyfield to name a few.

It can be recalled that sometime in January, Mr.Enwereuzor donated 9 pairs of Boxing gloves to the organizers of the Goodluck Jonathan Boxing Tournament. As a former Professinonal Boxer himself, he is currently scouting for talents in the Amateur ranks who can be groomed to join the paid ranks.

These are the kind of Ambassadors we need.

All you have there are lies and half baked truth. there is no President Jonathan show, Okoronkwo is a fake and just out to get money from the president but unfortunately for him the President was never and will never be interested in this trash. The one from USA is a lair from birth and he is Egypt and no good thing comes from Egypt. he thinks he can come back home and make the money he failed to make in his donkey years in the back streets of Obama’s Country. he talks more than he does and has never achieved anything in boxing, Ike Okoronkwo only fought amateur boxing and never achieved much before sojourning abroad and failed. These men are failures and an association of failures will bring disaster and only disaster.
Let no one be deceived by these pretenders.

I have had the pleasure of working with Mr.Enweruzor in the states. He has an interesting group of friends in the Boxing Elite.Its always exciting to work with someone with his personality and energry. He always gets the stories that gives insight on the boxing World like no other.

At last a breath of fresh air in nigerian boxing, the last I heard after a longtime was Samuel Peters who got support from his state, there is need for goverment to engage the youths constructively and this is one of the hows. I believe in this team to make things happen!

U.S.based Jackboxing Promotions in conjunction with Enugu State Sports Council will hold a one-day boxing tournament to assess the ability of boxers discovered for the 17th National Sports Festival (NSF).

The sports festival will take place at the new Adokiye Amiesimaka Sports Complex, Port Harcourt, from June29 to July 10.

The tournament holds today at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.

Ike Enwereuzor, proprietor of Jacboxing promotions, told newsmen on Friday in Enugu that the aim of the tournament was to discover good boxers who would represent Enugu at the festival and other competitions.

Enwereuzor, sponsor of the event, said he had the intention of promoting professional fights too in the state as a way of encouraging young boxers with potential.

“We are here to promote sports, particularly boxing. It should not be regarded as a game for hooligans.
“Boxing is a game for serious-minded people and they earn a living from it,” he said.

The promoter explained that he had donated some pairs of boxing gloves to support the President Goodluck Jonathan Talent Hunt Boxing, which will hold on May 22.

Ikechukwu Okoronkwo, Chairman Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the President Jonathan competition, said the one-day tournament was a welcome development to lift the dying spirit of boxing.

Okoronkwo, a former Light Welterweight Boxing Champion, explained that the Lion Boxing Club, Enugu, decided to support the tournament to encourage young boxers in the state.

“We want to see their performance and ability before the President Jonathan competition,” the LOC chairman said.

“There are no facilities in the state for boxing but we will try our best to move the sport forward.’’

I have heard a lot about you, read about the boxing event you staged March this year at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu and I think you can help the Nigerian and African Boxing. We hope you can also stage these fights in Imo State and other states like Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and so on. Hopefully, the Imo State government could work with you to achieve this in Imo State. Boxing is the highest paid sports. Even boxing should be introduced in Secondary Schools. It’s a sports you can join if interested just like other sports. This sports brought Nigeria their first sports Heroes like Legendary, Dick Tiger.We hope also that the new sports minister meets with you to discuss a way forward for Nigerian Professional Boxing.
